In this interactive craft session, we’ll explore one of the most enduring principles in writing: Show, Don’t Tell.

While this idea is often familiar—something many writers apply intuitively—we’ll slow down and examine how it actually functions on the page. What does it mean to show in a way that carries emotional weight? And how does “showing” shape what a poem ultimately reveals?

We’ll look at how sensory detail, grounded in place and time, can become a gateway into deeper emotional meaning. Beginning with physical, tangible landscapes, we’ll consider how the external world of a poem can echo, complicate, or illuminate its internal emotional life.

Through discussion, close reading, and writing exercises, we’ll work toward a more intentional, flexible command of this essential craft principle—moving it from rule to active creative tool.

Open to writers of all levels.

June 28th, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm EST.
